The late Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will lie in repose in the court where she served as part of a two-day tribute and funeral service in Washington later this month.

The Supreme Court said it will hold a private ceremony for O’Connor at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 18.

About an hour later, the public can pay respects to the former Arizona legislator and judge as she lies in repose in the court’s Great Hall. The public portion is scheduled to last until 8 p.m.

The next day, a private service celebrating O’Connor’s life will be held at the National Cathedral in Washington.

O’Connor regularly worshipped there and served for eight years on the Cathedral Chapter, the governing board of the cathedral.

“Justice O’Connor’s indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to justice made her a pioneer and an inspiration to generations, breaking barriers and leaving an enduring mark on the nation’s highest court,” the very Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith, dean of Washington National Cathedral, said in a statement. “The Cathedral has been blessed by her many years of service and worship.”

The family has requested contributions to iCivics, an organization she founded to boost civic awareness and participation, in lieu of flowers.

O’Connor, the first woman on the Supreme Court, died Friday at 93.
